Recursive discussion post!

 We've had a really great time talking in the comments section of my last fic and it made me kind of yearn for the forums, except that I'm never going back to the forums lmao. So I thought... why not have a discussion here? If it goes well, we're probably going to use dosbysilverqueen for a more robust discussion comm (a meme, in the "anon meme" sense of the word, except that being anon won't be required) but for now I think we should test it out here.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that most of you haven't used a meme before, so here's a little guide:

• each top-level comment on this journal entry will be a different subject, in this case probably named after threads from the forums (recursive, crossover, soulmates, etc). 
• each top-level comment will have a title ("crossover thread") that should not be deleted when you respond. (eg: All responses in the recursive thread should start with "re: crossover thread" so that people getting emails and using flatview can tell what thread they're about.)
• each second-level comment should be a single idea, for example each second-level response to the crossover thread will likely be a different fandom. this starts a subthread! hooray for nested comments.
• second-level comment titles should be changed to reflect the idea again for the easy of people browsing in various ways, but the changes should only be added to the already existing title! 
  • CORRECT SECOND LEVEL TITLE: "Re: crossover thread - harry potter"
  • INCORRECT SECOND LEVEL TITLE: "harry potter"
• you can go on amending the title for more subthreads as much as seems necessary from there.
• maybe keep this discussion spoiler-free for now, crossover folks.

I expect that there will be lots of thread failing and confusion. No harm done! Just try your best and we'll figure it out. Notice how much easier it is to track the conversations with the thread titles!

The rules are what the rules usually are (don't be a jerk, etc) but I will note that this is not a prompt meme! I would highly encourage folks to write some ficlets if the discussion inspires them or to post any ficlets they've got laying around that haven't been worthy of publishing seriously, but we're here to talk to each other, not ask for highly specific stories, so everyone should go into this looking to plot, compare headcanons, and build on each other's ideas. If people are interested and inspired we can run a related sprint-a-thon on the discord where we pick something that inspired us from here and give it a go.

Alright we started talking about how to organize the eventual dedicated discussion meme on Discord but uh convos move really fast there with lots of people, so let's do it here!

Here's a doc I had kicking around about one possible way to organize us on DW, but it needs some work and input from yall!

Main topic of discussion on Discord was about making sure people can find fic without making it hard to have discussions, I believe. What do y'all think?

Are you familiar with how people tend to run kinkmemes and love memes on DW/LJ and/or fests like the 3 sentence ficathon running now?

Anyway, I’d recommend ocassionally splitting off separate post purely for fic prompts and fills, and then having a regular weekly post for prompting discussion in addition to comm members posting as they think of things they want to share or discuss- it’s not dissimilar from having separate thematic threads within the ff.net DoS comm, except that it’s often pretty useful to occasionally turn over that type of post and start a new one of the same type - helps avoid things getting stale or momentum stalling. :o)

Even if you do have separate posts for primarily discussion or primarily prompts and fills, it’s inevitable that discussion will sometimes spill into fic and vice versa, which is awesome, but it’s generally handy to have some backbone structure to help people find a concentration of one or the other if that’s what they prefer.

Would recommend experimenting! *gleeful mad scientist glint*

We've got some really great comments going on over at my journal on watch not one another out of fear - shisui/shikako and I wanna keep talking about it. In the comments so far we've discovered that Yuuhi Shinku is the person who got dragged to see Shikaku and that Shikako is probably working on making Shisui friends with the special jounin crowd. Also that we need to name Shikako's Uchiha police partner, who's probably having SUCH a wild time.

Oh maaaan, I didn't even think of Shikako's partner! I would kill to see a ficlet of that, especially if they're a little less open minded than Shisui so it takes them awhile to warm up to Shikako. The Uchiha are like cats - you have to wait for them to come to you, and when they do nice things for you, they make it seem like an accident :P Also oh man, Shinku. Of COURSE it was Shinku. I hope he regretted every moment of being made to see Shikaku.

I’d love a moment where like Shikako super tired and out of it and just drops some random sharingan knowledge that Outsiders don’t really have. Especially outsiders from Konoha itself. And like all the Uchiha are startled/upset/confused. Because like it’s not general knowledge but it’s no real harmful (maybe something about headaches or side effects of the dojutsu, like how her seal looks to them?) so Shikako has to logic out an answer.

I also adored the composed Uchiha flailing of “oh no....? Maybe... is this a good thing? This can’t be a good thing.....!? Do we like her? Oh no we kinda like her.... maybe?

So there's been some talk on the forums on the shipping thread lately about like. Team seven all three being reincarnates of indra, asura, and a third person who are stuck in this eternal love triangle, and that version doesn't sit well with me for... various reasons. But I do love my trio babies being like, fated, and you know I'm a sucker for soulmate-adjacent tropes.

So maybe the three of them are still reincarnated over and over again, and always have the potential to be friends but because the ninja system/world is so broken, there keeps being external factors that tear them apart? Presumably team 7 would break the cycle, either through luck or will or Shikako having her memories. Something. But exploring that iteration, or the Madara/hashirama/3rd person iteration could be. Fun? I lost where I was going with this midway through. idk.

So, this is a stray plot bunny I simply do not have the time nor effort to spare to properly flesh out into a fic, but it refuses to leave my head so I'm dumping it here.

Once upon a time, I wrote a fic on ao3, based on frolic's Dark Fire verse, called Elders (Working Behind the Scenes) where I established my headcanons that A. Homura and Koharu have known about Root for a long time and secretly subverted a number of agents for themselves. B. Homura enjoys dealing with children and is the person Hiruzen based his kindly grandfather routine upon.

In most universes, despite being somewhat compassionate towards children, neither of the two speak up against Danzo or Root, mostly because these two are very much aware they are completely outclassed combat-wise and have no delusions that Danzo might be merciful just because they knew him for a long time. They'd rather stay alive, thank you very much.

But in one particular universe, right about when Shisui was planning to use his eye to "stop the coup" (that may not have even happened) and Danzo was planning to steal the eye, for perhaps the first time ever Homura goes against Danzo and outright tells Hiruzen and every Clan Head and Elder he knows (and he knows quite a number) about how Danzo's been working against the Uchiha for years now and likely wants Shisui's eye.

He's an old man, has turned a blind eye to terrible things for decades, he knows this won't make up for it. He also knows that Danzo with Shisui's eye could do horrors unimaginable. And quite frankly? He is sick and tired of being an irresponsible coward. So for once in his life, he'll stand up for something he can be proud of.

He dies for it.

But things are shaken up.

Homura and Koharu had a number of Root agents subverted at that point, and they are willing to lead Actually Loyal Anbu to the trainees and to the obviously-clan-children-that-shouldn't-be-there.

Koharu at this point knows that if she hopes to survive, to get revenge for Homura (her confidante for decades, now dead), for all the dead bodies of children she turned a blind eye on, the only thing she can do is bring out every last piece of evidence she had on Danzo's backroom deals and manipulations - and considering Danzo has underestimated them for years, believed them to be puppets and little else? She has a lot more than anyone could have expected.

There is an outroar. Konoha is shaken to its roots in every sense of the word. The existence of Root and its trainee's ages are horrifying. So is the idea that someone the Hokage calls friend has been ostracizing a Founding and Noble clan for no good reason. And not a single clan wants to comprehend the idea that an Elder wanted to kill a shinobi of Konoha because he desired their bloodline limit. Konoha is supposed to be *safe*.

The Uchiha nearly stage a coup for real, this time. They don't, because with how betrayed *all* the clans feel, it actually really will tear Konoha apart with a civil war. But it's oh-so-tempting, to pour out their rage.

And it's at this point that we throw Gardens!Shikako in.


Honestly, I don't have the energy to plan out more of this but I'd love to hear any input on how things might spiral on.

I've been wondering when Shikako and Sasuke share a look about stuff, like in the hospital arc about Sakura, are they as in sync as Shikako thinks they are? Or is Sasuke thinking something different?

Shikako is really great at reading people, like Kakashi, so it's easy to believe she's as on point as she seems but there's a lot of comedy potential in both Shikako and Sasuke believing the other one is thinking the same thing but really they aren't.

I know something is in the works to have a proper prompt meme/discussion community, but in the mean time, I know there's people with prompts, and people looking for prompts, so we can start a mini, temporary prompt thread here, I think.

Try to separate dissimilar prompts into different sub-threads with proper headings, so discussions of prompts and claims and such can be tracked more easily. Link any completed prompts in the relevent sub-thread, but please don't post responses here directly and make things too long.

I felt we need a separate section for this because we do so many of these.
